I'll be back

I was reminded today that I haven't posted in a while. Life's kinda hectic here at the moment. I know the tagline for this blog says "Working full time, Studying part time, Knitting all the time". Well, the work's been happening.. the stuidying.. well, I am trying and the knitting..not happening. Nope, nada, zilch.. none!

Alexis still unwell. Yes, still! We went to the doctor today and she has prescribed some Amoxyl drops for him. poor little tyke.. only 4 1/2 months old and already taking his first dose of antibiotics. I hoep it clears up the nasty cough he has, though, and he's not going to be taking it in vain. Chris and I are trying to get by with whatever little sleepwe are getting. Gosh, I am going to be so glad when Alex is well again and sleeping better.

Anyway, back to writing the silly paper that is due next week. I'll be back. Soon.

The boy is still unwell but on the mend

The good thing about Alex being unwell is that he's so tired it's really easy to put him to bed in the evenings. The bad thing.. well, there are lots of bad bits - the constant waking up at night, the frequent small meals, general fussiness, worrying about him.. etc., etc.

I think he is better today as he is more cheerful and actually drank out of a bottle. For the past week he has been refusing the bottle, but today, he actually drank nearly 200ml out of a bottle over two feeds. If he is starting to want food, he must be feeling better. Takes after his parents, he does!

I managed to finish the pair of knitted pants I was knitting.

Okay.. this first picture isn't great but it does show the pants in its entirety.

They can be worn with the cuffs up:

or down.

I even added some extra space at the back for diapered bottoms!

I have decided not to keep these for Alex. He has enough pants for now. I am going to try to sell them. Chris is still designing the banner for my shop on Ozebaby. He'll be done soon, but I can't start working on the shop till I am done with uni. Current plans are for my shop to open its virtual doors in mid-June. Not long now..

The little guy is unwell

Again...

It's the second time he's caught a cold. This time, we're not even sure it is a cold. He had his 4month vaccinations last Saturday. Since Tuesday afternoon, he's not been quite himself, and it has just gotten worse. He is now very unenthusiastic about his food, almost totally rejecting bottles and not even that interested in a boob-feed. He cries and fusses a lot. He is sniffly and has a sometimes phlegm-y and sometimes dry cough. I think it is a cold, or the result of his shots. Who knows.

On the other hand, he is also showing all the classic signs of teething, minus the teeth. He pulls at his ears, loves to chomp down on our knuckles, enjoys biting his teething ring, shoves everything in sight into his mouth, rubs his mouth with his fists, smelly poos (like smellier than usual), and all the rest of it. I keep checking his mouth and there are no teeth in sight, not even little buds or hard bits on his gums. I bought some baby Bonjela, just in case.

Oh, and poos.. I can now say I have been both pee-ed on and poo-ed on. Ah, the joys of motherhood. maybe that was Alex's mother's day present for me. I went to change his nappy tonight and just as I had pulled off his nappy, he farted at me and before I could say, "poo", the nasty stuff was oozing out. Luckily, it was all caught on a towel and not my bedsheet. Unfortunately, it was all caught on towel (and not his nappy)... which I have had to wash (the towel, not the nappy). I sure hope he doesn't make a habit of it.. I don't think I want one of tehse every mother's day's eve! To top it all off, he was giggling and grinning at me the whole time. he thought it was funny! Oh, what a cheeky boy!

Okay, this may make me feel better...

Those are Alex's newest knitted pants. The pattern is the same as the one from last minute Knitted Gifts, but knitted from the top down. I used nearly 2 balls of Zara and a tiny bit of the dark blue Chinese merino yarn which was given to me by Emy. When I say "Chinese merino", I mean that the yarn came from China. I don't think China grows merinos, but I could be wrong.

I have started another pair. Yes, I think I am addicted. I am using the rest of the dark blue Chinese merino and a ball of blue and grape yarn I dyed when I first started dyeing. I doubt I will have enough of it to finish the pants so I will have to supplement with plenty of dark blue. So far:

ISE4 scarf is completed

No photos yet as I still need to weave in the end and block it. It's looking better than I thought it would when I first started. The blue/purple tones suit the pattern and don't interfere with it too much. I promise I will post pictures as soon as I have blocked it.

Today Alex wore the knitted pants that Cynthia gave him. Thank you, Cynthia! I no longer have to roll it up as much. Alex is growing into such a big boy! Just look...

Yesterday Alex had his 4 month shots at the doctor's and we weighed him. He now weighs 7.6kg - that's like a whopping 16.7lb! The shots were not as bad as I had feared. He yelped when the needles went it but was happy and gurgling in less than a minute after that. I think the shots hurt me more than they hurt him. Oh well.. it will be another two months before the next lot.

Alex has been a grizzly little boy for the past two days. he is asleep now, but I wonder how long that will last. He is really getting on Chris'nerves and I must admit that it's starting to annoy me too. He just refuses to be comforted by his father. As soon as Chris passes him to me, the crying softens and soon stops. What's with that? I told Chris it's not personal, but gee.. if this carries on, I will be very tired!

Alex also doesn't like bottles as much as he does the boob. He'll hold out for a boobie feed if he thinks that there is one coming. My usual routine is that I feed him before and after day care and once at around lunch time. They give him two bottles at daycare. The most that he has drunk from a bottle is 160ml, and that happened just ONCE! Usually I'm lucky if he drinks 125ml. I suspect he drinks just enough to not be hungry because he knows he will get a boobie meal at lunch time and at dinner time, and as a result he's terribly hungry by the timelunch or dinner rolls around. What a silly boy.. so clever that he has worked out the boobie meals and so silly that he'd hold out for them and drive me insane!
